How does the Chill Mat actually work?

It's filled with a non-toxic gel that absorbs body heat when pressure is applied. The gel stays several degrees cooler than the surrounding floor for up to 3 hours, then recharges itself when the dog gets off for 15–20 minutes. No fridge, no power, no water. Want it colder? Put it in the fridge for half an hour before a hot afternoon.

Is the gel safe if my dog chews it?

The gel is non-toxic, but the mat is not a chew toy. If your dog destroys beds, supervise them on it or skip it. A punctured mat can be wiped clean and disposed of.

Will my dog actually wear the Cover Suit?

Almost all of them settle in within the first hour. It's soft and stretchy, like a t-shirt, and most dogs find it far less distressing than a cone. A handful of very wriggly dogs will try to get it off in the first ten minutes; distraction (a lick mat helps) gets them through it.

Can they still go to the toilet in the suit?

Yes. Roll the back flap up and clip it at the waist. Takes about five seconds. No need to take the suit off.

Does the suit replace the cone completely?

For wounds on the belly, chest, back, sides and rump: yes. For wounds on the head, neck, legs or paws it doesn't cover them, so ask your vet. Always follow your vet's instructions for your dog's specific surgery.

Are the balms safe to lick?

Yes. Beeswax, shea butter and coconut oil. No petroleum, no essential oils, no fragrance. A little licking is fine; if they lick it all off before it absorbs, apply it right before a walk or a meal so they're distracted.

What goes on a lick mat?

Anything spreadable and dog-safe: natural peanut butter (check it's xylitol-free), plain Greek yoghurt, mashed banana, wet food, pumpkin puree. Freeze it for a longer session.
